After nearly four days in MEIJEL we pushed forward to the canal and " B " Company linked up with tanks' of 4th Armoured Brigade who had come from BERINGE, a village about a mile east of the canal. The Sappers quickly bulldozed a causeway into the canal by the blown bridge and on the night of the 19th November, the Battalion moved over the canal and took over BERINGE. All was quiet there, apart from a brief but sharp period of shelling soon after our arrival. The inevitable rain was falling and fires still burned fitfully in the area-a dreary scene.
