Alt Name: Sunderland/Hylton. Opened: 1916. Status in 1944: RAF. 56 Wing. MSU. Current use: Industry. Remarks: Opened in 1916 as civil airport. Taken over by RAF 1938. Became Sunderland airport 1955. Now Nissan cars. Eastern corner is now the Sunderland aviation museum. The control tower, hangers and some of the hardstandings being used for this purpose,one hanger being used for restoration.
