The story
On 1 June 1945, Squadron Leader Jack Rife Beirnes DFC & bar (RCAF), serial C/13458, commanding officer of 438 Sqd RCAF flew Typhoon SW393 from airbase B.166 Flensburg Germany to Copenhagen Denmark. The aircraft was lost and the pilot killed when the engine stalled on final at Copenhagen. S/L Beirnes was a veteran of 4 years of combat flying.
