The story
FRANCE, BELGIUM, HOLLAND
163 aircraft - 65 Wellingtons, 64 Hampdens, 34 Whitleys - attacked a wide range of communications targets. Some of the Hampdens bombed Boulogne and Dunkirk docks and airfields at Flushing (Vlissingen) and Ostend. 1 Wellington lost.
NORTHERN FRANCE, 14 and
---
FRANCE, GERMANY
43 Whitleys bombed targets in France in support of the land battle; 1 was lost. 24 Wellingtons and 5 Hampdens bombed targets in the Ruhr and in Southern Germany. 16 Wellingtons were sent as far south as Basle and Konstanz, on the Bodensee (Lake Constance); this was presumably an attempt to carry the bomber offensive to the extreme corners of this part of Germany.
