Avro Lancaster III (ND585 ZN-J) on a mission to Nurnberg on 1944-03-01
On Tuesday, 29 February 1944, (a part of) the aircraft of the 106 squadron (RAF), took off for a mission to Nurnberg in Germany from a station (airfield) in or near Metheringham.
One of the crew members was Flight Sergeant F Thompson. He departed for his mission at 22:15.
He flew with a Avro Lancaster (type III, with serial ND585 and code ZN-J). His mission and of the other crew members was planned for Wednesday, 01 March 1944.
David: I refer to the above RAF Navigator whom is mentioned in reference to Lancaster ND585 that crashed on 30/31 March 1944 whilst a part of the infamous Nuremburg Raid and was from 106 Squadron. Frank Thompson was a close friend of my late father and we have some family documents form the time, in the year 2000 my father and I visited his grave and those of the crew at Hotton War Cemetery in Belgium.
Thanks for the photos
