Don lived in New Jersey. He would have 97 next July 2019.
Don joined and trained with the 29th division in England. Before D Day he was stationed at Penzance in Cornwall where he embarked for Omaha beach. His 175th regiment landed June 7th, took Isigny and then turned south to St Lô. During a few days, the 3rd Bn 175th was positioned around Moon Sur Elle where Don received the Bronze Star Medal for heroic actions. His unit was then sent to Hill 108 to relieve the 1st Bn 175th badly hit on the terrible and bloody fighting of June 18th, 1944. Don was wounded there on June 21 and spent weeks in the hospital recovering from his wound. He returned to his old unit when the division was fighting at Brest on August 28th. After Brest, the unit was sent to Germany. Don was promoted Sgt in October but was again wounded a few days later. after recovering from his wound Don will finish his service in a Port of Embarkation unit.
