The story
German submarine U-23 torpedoed and sank Norwegian coal carrier Fredville, which had just picked up coal from Methil, Scotland, about 100 miles east of the Orkney Islands at 1632 hours. 11 men were killed, 5 men were rescued by a Swedish ship.
