The story

On 1944-03-12, Pilot C E Sayer (Flight Sergeant, RAF) with servicenumber 1315478 flew a Spitfire XII with serial RB172 for this duty: Scramble. His mission was not completed. Circumstances of the aircraft loss: Killed on 12th March 1944 after his Spitfire Mk.XII crashed near Turnhouse for an unknown reason. It had been scrambled to assist a Liberator returning to base. This aircraft was a part of squadron no. 91. The location for the map is The Turnhouse Landside, Edinburgh Airport, United Kingdom. Circumstances at the end of this mission for Sayer: he was killed. He is commemorated at: Exeter (Exwick Or St. Thomas) Cemetery, United Kingdom.
