The story

On Wednesday, 03 November 1943, (a part of) the aircraft of the 428 squadron (RCAF), took off for a mission to Dusseldorf in Germany from a station (airfield) in or near Middleton St George.
One of the crew members was Flying Officer R G Eaton RCAF. He departed for his mission at 16:47.
He flew with a Handley Page Halifax (type V, with serial LK954 and code NA-E). His mission and of the other crew members was planned for Thursday, 04 November 1943.

The aircraft crashed at South Kyme in Lincolnshire after the bomb door fell off removing a large part of the tailplane. The aircraft became instantly unflyable and crashed at approximately a 40 degree angle inverted. Seven of the crew are buried in Cambridge City Cemetry and one in St Deiniol Church, Hawarden near Chester.
The site of the crash is adjacent to what is now South Kyme Golf Club. The Golf Club have built a memorial to the crew near to the clubhouse by the entry to the course.
