The story

On Thursday, 16 December 1943, (a part of) the aircraft of the 44 squadron (RAF), took off for a mission to Berlin in Germany from a station (airfield) in or near Dunholme Lodge.
One of the crew members was Flight Sergeant L Barker. He departed for his mission at 16:21.
He flew with a Avro Lancaster (type III, with serial DV238 and code KM-M). His mission and of the other crew members was planned for Friday, 17 December 1943.

Jamie Thomas O'Malley: I have come across your website whilst researching about my Great Uncle Pilot Officer Thomas Melia, whom I am named after. He was the Navigator on DV238 mission to Berlin with Flight Sargeant L Barker. He was one of the crew who was killed when the plane went down near Diepholz nr Hannover in Germany.

I have always been fascinated with what he did especially when I found myself joining the forces but I went to the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. I am now finding some excellent information from sites like yours. For you and other readers here is the link to the Memorial site with the names of their crew mates and other details. The memorial opens on 30th January and I hope to visit soon. http://internationalbcc.co.uk/losses/melia-tb/

I have attached a couple photos for your site. The first is my Uncle Pilot Officer Thomas Melia 161688 44 (Rhodesian) Sqn RAFVR and the second is of Lancaster DV238 when it was with
