Kirkbride X5KB (A)

1945-05-09 · United Kingdom

The story

Alt Name: --. Opened: 1939. Status in 1944: RAF. 41 Grp. Maintenance.. Current use: Airfield. Remarks: Kirkbride (was EGOX) runways extant but virtually derelict. The middle part of 08/26 is still used by microlights and GA aircraft. This was an enormous airfield, far more extensive than apparent on OS map - on the ground you can trace taxiways, hardstandings and still used (for industrial and agricultural purposes) hangars way beyond the obvious boundaries and across what are now public roads.
