The story
Alt Name: --. Opened: 1914. Status in 1944: RAF. 70 Grp. Fighter AACU. Current use: Housing. Remarks: AAP in WW1. 14 EFTS. Huge Spitfire/Lancaster shadow factory was set up here. The airfield remained in use by the RAF up to 1963. The site has become the 'Castle Vale' housing estate , some of the roads using aeronautical names.
