Rheinberg from the air. Of the 3,326 graves 2,895 belong to R.A.F. men, nearly all lost in Bomber Command raids on targets in the Ruhr. It was not far from here that the biggest wartime decoy fire site for the Ruhr was situated.
53 (a and b). The Reichswald War Cemetery, near Kleve, contains 3,971 R.A.F. men, more than any other cemetery in Germany. The airmen on the front row of temporary crosses were not Bomber Command men. The communal grave on the left of the second row contains Pilot Officer George Burgess, an Australian, and five other members of a 460 Squadron crew lost when their Lancaster was shot down by Flak while attacking Dortmund in daylight on
