The story

GERMANY
57 Hampdens, Wellingtons and Whitleys to 9 targets; 1 Hampden lost. 3 O.T.U. sorties.
One of the targets raided on this night was Hamburg, whose local historian, Hans Brunswig, notes that the first R.A.F. 250-lb petrol bombs were recorded at approximately this time. They were described as being packed with petrol-soaked rags - 'Churchill's old socks' suggest the Hamburg humorists.

---

AIRFIELDS
23 Blenheims, only 9 bombed, 1 lost. 6 Blenheims on sea sweep attacked shipping near Brest.

---

THE RUHR
59 Hampdens, Wellingtons and Whitleys to 6 targets in the Ruhr; 1 Whitley lost. 16 Hampdens minelaying and on sea reconnaissance, 1 lost. 5 O.T.U. sorties.
